Join us on Friday 18th August for a fascinating evening with Marietta Crichton Stuart, delving into the Third Marquess of Bute's connections with Falkland and St Andrews.
In the last decade of his life and in failing health, Lord Bute left his mark in Fife as the Keeper, Captain and Constable of Falkland Palace, giving the hunting Palace of the Stuarts a new lease of life, transforming a staid Victorian country house and possibly even introducing cricket to Falkland. He sponsored excavations and restoration work at St Andrews Cathedral, was a major benefactor to the university and was a hands on Rector of the university in the midst of its battles with University College, Dundee.
