Scottish Tree Festival- Tree Tours

Take a tour with head gardener Brian Cunningham around the historical grounds of Scone Palace. Learn about the J C Loudon designed landscape, plant hunter David Douglas whose legacy stands proudly in the grounds taking a walk through the giant spires of the Victorian Pinetum and trees planted by Kings and Queens some 400 years old. We will also take a look at the way trees can be manipulated into boundary hedges, topiary and stylish structures and also how the many leaves help improve our garden soils. Small selection of choice trees suitable for the garden home can be purchased.

Armadale Castle Gardens has a magnificent tree collection which dates from the early 19th century. Visitors can enjoy autumn colours, wander around the Victorian Arboretum, and marvel at old, giant and exotic trees.

All through the festival you can pick up a fun family trail to discover some of our most intriguing and unusual trees. We will also be holding a drop-in day when visitors can meet our head gardener and ask questions; and launching a new online tree tour.

Our free virtual event takes you on a tour of the tree-column bases in the woodland at Little Sparta, the garden of poet Ian Hamilton Finlay. Six tree-column bases, each inscribed with the name of a cultural hero who was important Finlay, create a pantheon deep in the woodland.
