Edzell Castle and Gardens
Due to access restrictions in place as a precautionary measure while Historic Environment Scotland undertake high level masonry inspections, there is currently no visitor access to this site.
The refined beauty of Edzell was a statement of the prestige of its owners, the Lindsays. The stylised walled garden was created in 1604. Resplendent with heraldic sculptures and carved panels, the architectural framework surrounding the garden is unique in Britain. The garden also includes walled flower and nesting boxes and a delightful summer house.
The garden walls feature a recessed chequered pattern which is planted out with blue and white lobelia and marigolds in early June and the castle attracts wildlife in abundance including red kites, peregrines, owls, swallows, swifts and sand martens. The sheep pens adjacent to the garden which are used for lambing in spring are very popular with visitors as is the colony of Peafowl that also live around the grounds. How to find us
