Greens garden is a young, small private garden located in Orkney's East Mainland. Established by a couple of passionate amateur gardeners with the 'use what you have' philosophy, the garden is full of driftwood, stone, copper and repurposed materials features. Visitors can take a walk along perennial and shrub borders, admire a small collection of species roses, or just sit and relax with the view of St Peter's pool bay and surrounding landscape.
Despite the location of the garden, towards the top of a north facing slope where the salt laden gales race from the sea, the variety of perennial plants and shrubs counts 400+.
How to find us
From Kirkwall on the A960 towards Deerness. Driving past Kirkwall airport car park, continue on the A960 for exactly 5 miles, where you then turn right onto the Biggings road up a hill between two fields. Greens garden is with the first house on the right, and is marked by a white concrete strainer post at the end of the gravel drive.
Take service 3 from Kirkwall to Deerness, and leave bus at the bottom of Biggings road. Take the short 5 minute walk up where you will find Greens garden with the first house on the right.
